Šeruga Guest house yesterday, today, tomorrow…
Šeruga Guest house yesterday, today, tomorrow…
More than thirty years ago, we opened the doors of the Šeruga Guest house to our first guests. No, that’s not a mistake, Slavko’s parents welcomed the first guests – in the 1950s, Slovenian nuns from Serbia came to the valley on vacation. The Sisters of Mercy were extremely valued as nurses and caregivers in Belgrade hospitals. On vacation with the Šerugas, they would walk during the day, soak their feet in the stream, retreat to the shade of the bushy apple trees from the strong sun, read, and pray. My mother-in-law would pamper them with štruklji and milky močnik, and Slavko still remembers how the youngest of them, to the displeasure of the other nuns, put on a swimsuit. That was the beginning of the story. Then, many years later, Zvone brought friends, an Australian family, to visit. It was mowing time and they happily grabbed their rakes, turned the mowed grass, and most of all, they took pictures, which was a completely new experience for them. Their sincere enthusiasm gave rise to the idea: why not offer the townspeople a new experience, a stay in nature, on a self-sufficient farm, where children can meet domestic animals, see how bread is baked, and pick wild berries for breakfast. Thus began the story of the Šeruga Guest house. From humble beginnings, a lot of enthusiasm, faith that we were leading the farm in the right direction, and sacrifices, a tourist farm was created, which we are proud of and where we attract guests from literally all over the world.
EVA says:
But there comes a time for a new step, a new story. There comes a time when a person has to adapt their work to their capabilities. Too much work and constant sacrifices take their toll… the decision to change the business was not easy for all of us, but it was necessary: in the future, we will only focus on accommodation tourism and no longer on catering activities. Unfortunately, there will be no more Sunday lunches, parties for closed groups. We will devote even more pampering and attention to the guests who decide to spend a short or long vacation with us. Because they deserve only the best and because everyone has always been and always will be the best guests. We are increasingly focusing on organic farming, trying to be as self-sufficient as possible, offering on our plates everything that we grow on the farm in an environmentally friendly way. Rok has expanded the vegetable garden, planted more asparagus, a new strawberry plantation, set up new high beds, planted new trees in the orchard… and this entails a lot of additional work for our mini team. As for tourism on the farm, we are preparing several new programs, which are currently still a secret. The whole family would like to take this opportunity to thank from the bottom of our hearts everyone who has visited us faithfully over the past thirty years, who celebrated baptisms, communions, confirmations, birthdays, got married here and became our dear friends, creating the Šeruga Guest house. Without you, dear guests, who gave us confidence and affirmation, we would not be where we are. THANK YOU to everyone again. Eva and Lili
